Man City will have Silva available for derby at Old Trafford

Manchester City midfielder David Silva has been passed fit for Sunday’s Manchester derby with Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Earlier this week, City boss Pep Guardiola claimed that Silva could miss the top-of-the-table clash after picking up a problem during the 2-1 win over West Ham United last weekend.

The Spain international played no part against Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League on Wednesday night, and had been tipped to miss out this weekend.

Guardiola, however, speaking at his pre-match press conference on Friday, confirmed that Silva was available for selection as City look to open up an 11-point lead at the top of the Premier League table.

Club captain Vincent Kompany is also expected to start despite a slight issue, whilst Fabian Delph is available after missing the Shakhtar match through illness.

Guardiola has a decision to make in the final third as he chooses between Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus, but Kevin De Bruyne and Fernandinho will line up alongside David Silva in the middle of the park.

City have won their last 13 in the Premier League, and the table-toppers currently sit eight points above second-placed United ahead of the derby at Old Trafford.

Newcastle fans blame Rafa Benitez for Leicester defeat

Newcastle United’s poor run of form continued as they suffered a 3-2 home defeat by Leicester City at St James’ Park on Saturday evening, and Magpies fans were quick to identity manager Rafa Benitez as the man to blame for the loss.

The Tyneside outfit came into the clash against the Foxes having taken just one point from the last 18 available, and wins for West Ham United and Swansea City earlier in the day meant that Benitez’s men sat just two point above the relegation zone at kick-off.

They got off to the perfect start on their 125th anniversary when Joselu gave them an early lead, but the visitors soon hit back with goals from Riyad Mahrez and Demarai Gray, before Dwight Gayle equalised 17 minutes from time.

However, Ayoze Perez’s late own goal proved to the difference between the two clubs, and Benitez didn’t get let off the hook lightly.

Newcastle supporters took to social media to give their thoughts on the Spaniard, and while one said his “stubbornness is massively effecting us”, another said “he seems to be lost at the minute”.

Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…

Pundit tips Liverpool to move for Jack Wilshere

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson believes that Liverpool would be interested in signing Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere if he became available.

The England international’s future has been in doubt for some time due to his current contract situation.

The 25-year-old, who has been plagued by injury problems during his career at the North London outfit, will become a free agent at the end of the season.

Manager Arsene Wenger has revealed to reporters that he will hold contract talks with Wilshere at the end of the month.

Depending on how those go, the midfielder could either be sold in January or will move to another club on a free transfer next summer.

Merson, who played for Arsenal in his career, thinks that Liverpool could form an interest in Wilshere.

The football pundit has suggested that the midfielder could replace Philippe Coutinho, who was denied a move to Barcelona in the summer but continues to be linked to the Catalan giants.

While on Sky Sports News, Merson said:

“I think Liverpool would take him all day long. They rely on Coutinho to break people down, if you get Jack Wilshere as well then you’ve got two people who can break people down.

“At the moment they are very reliant on Coutinho. If Coutinho doesn’t do it, there are not too many others who can put the ball through the eye of a needle who play for Liverpool. For me I think Liverpool would be all over him.”

Sunderland fans can’t decide on Asoro exit

Reports suggest Joel Asoro will leave Sunderland to join Swansea City, and fans are split over losing the young winger.

According to BBC, Sunderland have accepted a bid for Asoro in the region of £2m.

New Swansea manager Graham Potter is said to be a long time admirer of the player, who has just 12 months left on his contract.

Asoro wants to leave, which has plenty of fans feeling glad to see the back of him.

However, there are more than a few fans that are disappointed they are losing the youngster, who has shown flashes of major potential during his time on Wearside.

The 19 year-old moved to the Stadium of Light in 2016, and scored three times in 27 league appearances for the Black Cats.

Asoro has played at multiple youth levels for Sweden, and is fantastic when he is dribbling directly at defenders.

Still, his end product has been poor at times and he can be very wasteful, perhaps why fans are so split over the deal. You can find some of the best Twitter reactions down below…

Arsenal fans ponder shock Giroud return as Welbeck looks set to be sold

Moving between London rivals is always a risky move, but when Olivier Giroud joined Chelsea from Arsenal, the majority of fans continued to show love for the striker.

At the time of the Frenchman’s switch in January, he was low down the pecking order under former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger.

With Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the squad, Giroud’s route into the first XI was made that much harder.

Since moving to Chelsea, the hitman has scored five goals in 17 appearances in all competitions, but he started just nine of those matches.

Giroud struggled to find his shooting boots at the World Cup as he failed to hit the back of the net despite France going all the way and winning the tournament in Russia.

The striker may not be as prolific at the moment, but he does have 76 Premier League goals to his name, and some Arsenal fans think that the club should try to re-sign him just six months after selling the forward.

This discussion was sparked on Reddit following a report in The Telegraph, which claims that new manager Unai Emery could offload Danny Welbeck before the summer window shuts.

If this was to happen, some Arsenal fans would love Giroud to return, while others are not so sure.

Hijack: Wolves should make a move for Andre Ayew

According to Wales Online, reporting via the Turkish outlet BiP Spor, Swansea City’s Andre Ayew is close to completing a loan move to Fenerbahce.

Andre Ayew only re-signed for the Swans in January after an underwhelming spell with West Ham, but following the Welsh outfit’s relegation from the Premier League, the Ghana international could be on the move again already.

The 28-year-old will be eager to maintain his top flight status, and as things stand, a switch to Turkey is his best avenue for achieving that aim.

However, certain Premier League teams may want to consider offering Ayew the opportunity to revive his top flight career in England.

With the attacker seemingly available on a loan basis, Wolves should act now to make sure they don’t miss this chance to snap up Ayew on temporary terms.

The Breakdown

Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo has already made excellent use of the loan system during his time in charge at Molineux, and this would be another great chance to add depth and quality to his squad via that means.

Santo’s team is full of flair, technical ability and quality. It lacks Premier League experience though, and the addition of a forward who knows, and has proven to have, what it takes to score goals at this level could be invaluable.

Ayew’s versatility would also make him an asset to Wolves, as the Ghanaian could be called upon to deputise anywhere across the front line. Over the course of a gruelling Premier League campaign, having players who are comfortable in more than one position can often prove vital.

If Wolves act fast then they can bag themselves a quick, creative goalscorer on the kind of loan deal that has served them so well in recent windows.

Barcelona take an interest in Quina, West Ham United fans react

West Ham United have been one of the busier Premier League clubs in the summer transfer window.

Since Manuel Pellegrini was appointed as manager, the East London outfit have recruited seven new players.

Felipe Anderson is the most recent face through the welcome gates, while Jack Wilshere and Andriy Yarmolenko have also signed up.

Understandably, the majority of transfer news surrounding the Hammers has been in relation to incomings, but a story has now emerged about a possible departure.

According to Sky Sports News, Barcelona have contact West Ham about the availability of youngster Domingos Quina.

The report claims that the Premier League outfit are prepared to sell for around £600,000 as the teenager is in the final year of his contract.

It is believed that Werder Bremen and Hoffenheim are also interested in the attacking midfielder, who joined West Ham from Chelsea in 2016.

Supporters have been giving their take on the situation, and there have been a mixture of views.

Joe Hart and Burnley are a match made in heaven

Burnley’s first European game in 51 years ended in a draw.

The Clarets earned a place in the Europa League qualifying rounds thanks to a seventh-place finish in the Premier League. Burnley travelled to Scotland to face Aberdeen in the first-leg. A late goal from Sam Vokes gave Sean Dyche a 1-1 draw to take home to Turf Moor.

Despite the result, a serious injury to goalkeeper Nick Pope overshadowed the occasion. The Englishman immediately sought assistance after a collision in the tenth minute and was later taken to hospital with a shoulder problem. With Tom Heaton also sidelined, Dyche may be forced into the transfer market for a new ‘keeper.

The solution to his problem could be Manchester City outcast – Joe Hart. Valued at £9m by Transfermarkt, the former England international spent last season on loan at West Ham where he made 19 appearances. Behind Ederson and Claudio Bravo in the pecking order, he will be allowed to leave the club this summer.

With his career stuttering in recent years, Hart would jump at the chance of a fresh start at Turf Moor. The 31-year-old remains a decent shot stopper and represents an upgrade on Anders Lindegaard. Hart has a point to prove, and Burnley could be the side to benefit.

The former Birmingham stopper has just one-year remaining on his contract so the Clarets would be able to pick up him on the cheap. If Pope is sidelined for the foreseeable future, this might be a move Dyche simply has to make.

West Ham United launch six more bids for new players, fans react

West Ham United have been one of the busiest Premier League clubs in the summer transfer window.

Manuel Pellegrini has certainly made his mark as manager since being named as David Moyes’s replacement.

The Chilean, who won the Premier League title with Manchester City, has recruited eight new faces.

Jack Wilshere, Felipe Anderson and Andriy Yarmolenko are among the group of signings that have moved to the London Stadium.

Many would assume that the Hammers’ spending, which is closing in on £100m, has come to an end, but they would be wrong.

Surprisingly, according to reliable insider ExWHUemployee, the club have tabled six bids for some more talent, and they hope to lure two of their targets to East London before the transfer window shuts next Thursday.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”274376″ player=”12034″ title=”The Consequences of West Ham Selling Obiang”]

A number of defenders and strikers have been linked to the club in recent days, and this tweet has sparked fans into guessing who the targets could be.

Others reacted to the post with sheer joy that West Ham are making moves in the market.

Sale of James Tavernier would tarnish Rangers’ fantastic transfer window

Rangers have enjoyed a fantastic summer transfer window so far with 11 new signings to report and the arrival of Steven Gerrard generating plenty of hype at Ibrox, but the end of the English transfer window could bring about some unwanted interest in one of their star players.

According to a recent report from the Daily Express, Brighton & Hove Albion are interested in signing James Tavernier before Thursday’s 5PM deadline. The same report claims that the Seagulls have been tracking Tavernier for months, which is hardly surprising given the quality of his performances in the SPFL during his time with the Gers.

After all the progress Rangers have made in the transfer market this summer you would expect Tavernier to be inclined to remain at the club, but the lure of Premier League football and a lucrative pay rise could well turn his head.

The 27-year-old full-back has been a mainstay on the right-side of Rangers’ defence since he joined the club from Wigan in 2015, and his ability to supplement his excellent defensive work with marauding runs forward has given the club a decisive attacking threat on the overlap.

The ability to bomb forward and provide an attacking outlet is one of the most desirable traits in a modern full-back and Tavernier possesses that ability in abundance.

From 145 appearances in a Rangers shirt Tavernier has providing a staggering 28 goals and 41 assists from just 145 appearances for the club – a simply outstanding return for a defender.

His development now sees him donning the captain’s armband, so Rangers would not only be losing a tremendous player but also a strong leader who would be near-impossible to replace.

With less than 24 hours to go before the English deadline passes it seems unlikely that Tavernier will suddenly decide to depart the club, and everybody involved with the club will certainly be hoping that he remains loyal by snubbing a transfer which would certainly tarnish their chances of catching Celtic this season.
