Rangers should still move for Liverpool’s Dominic Solanke

Jurgen Klopp has refused to rule out loaning out young striker Dominic Solanke, opening the door for a move to Rangers, as per The Evening Standard.

What’s the story?

The 20-year-old England international is hotly-tipped as a star of the future and scored his first Liverpool goal on the final day of last season against Brighton.

Rangers were linked with the young forward earlier in the summer but their interest appeared to have cooled down.

Now Jurgen Klopp has opened the door for a move by refusing to rule out loaning Solanke out when pushed in a press conference.

Sign him up

Solanke is going to find it very hard to force his way into the Liverpool team this season with even more firepower in the squad and Daniel Sturridge now looking like the backup option.

There’s very little risk involved in making a loan move for Solanke and Gerrard would know how to bring the best out of him after working with the young talent back at Anfield.

Gerrard has bolstered his attack already this summer but there’s no harm in bringing in Solanke, who will be desperate to prove himself in order to get back in Klopp’s plans, with the 20-year-old having the quality and potential to make an even bigger impact than Alfredo Morelos at Ibrox.

Arsenal fans don’t want to see Lucas Torreira on the bench again

Arsenal didn’t get off to the best start in the Premier League as they suffered a 2-0 defeat to champions Manchester City in the opening round of fixtures.

New boss Unai Emery couldn’t have asked for a tougher start, with Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea up next for the Gunners.

After bringing in a number of new faces this summer, Emery elected not to start with their most expensive recruit Lucas Torriera, instead opting for Granit Xhaka, Aaron Ramsey and youngster Matteo Guendouzi in midfield.

Torreira, who signed for an estimated £25million, could only make the bench, and came on for the disappointing Granit Xhaka in the 70th minute.

Many Arsenal fans were perplexed with Emery’s decision to leave out the Uruguay international against the champions who overran Arsenal across the pitch.

The supporters have been reacting on social media to Torreira’s omission and here’s a selection of what they’ve had to say.

Aston Villa simply must sign Abraham on loan

According to The Telegraph, Aston Villa are pushing hard to sign Chelsea forward Tammy Abraham on loan before the end of the month.

What’s the story?

The future of Abraham has been a major talking point this summer, with the 20-year-old linked with a number of clubs over the last few weeks.

A number of Championship teams are said to be interested in the centre-forward, and according to The Telegraph, Villa are doing their best to secure a deal.

However, the same report claims that Abraham is yet to be convinced that dropping down to the Championship at this stage of his career represents his best move.

The England international signed a new five-year contract with Chelsea last summer before joining Swansea City on loan for the 2017-18 campaign.

Abraham is now back with his parent club, but is not believed to be in the plans of Blues boss Maurizio Sarri, and will surely move on before the end of the month.

Would Abraham be a good signing for Villa?

In short, yes. Abraham is highly rated at Chelsea, but the fact of the matter is that he would struggle for first-team football if he remained at Stamford Bridge this season.

A number of European clubs have also been credited with an interest, but according to The Telegraph, Abraham is keen to stay in the English game.

Abraham scored five Premier League goals during a mixed spell at Swansea, but has shown that he is a serious force in the Championship – netting 23 league goals for Bristol City during the 2016-17 season.

Standing at 6ft 3in and boasting a frightening turn of speed, Abraham’s arrival at Villa Park would be a huge boost to the club, and there is no question that it would make them one of the favourites to secure a return to the Premier League.

Villa will seemingly have to wait when it comes to Abraham’s future, but Steve Bruce’s side must fight to sign the powerhouse before the end of August.

Celtic must keep hold of Moussa Dembele after poor start to the season

According to French publication La Provence, Marseille are hoping to bring Celtic striker Moussa Dembele back to his home country in a £17m deal, but Celtic must keep hold of their main man.

What’s the story?

The Daily Record reported earlier in the summer that Marseille, Borrusia Dortmund, Chelsea, Crystal Palace and Juventus were all interested in the 22-year-old, but none have made a formal bid so far.

Since joining from Fulham on a free transfer in the summer of 2016, Dembele has scored an impressive 51 goals in 93 appearances for the Bhoys and is now valued at £6.3m by Transfermarkt, although Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers will be holding out for much more.

The prolific young striker is also a France U21 international and has nine goals in 14 games for his country’s youth side.

Not at any price

However after Celtic’s poor start to the season the Hoops cannot afford to sell Dembele at any price this summer. The Frenchman is currently out with a thigh injury that has seen him miss six matches and the Parkhead side have struggled in his absence.

A 1-0 defeat by Hearts in only their second game of the Scottish Premiership season coupled with a loss over two legs to AEK Athens in the Champions League qualifiers has meant that the pressure is building on Rodgers already, despite the Northern Irishman securing the famous double treble last season.

Celtic splashed £9m on a deal for former loanee and striker Odsonne Edouard from PSG this summer, but they cannot afford to sell Dembele who remains their main goal threat. With Rangers returning to the top under Steven Gerrard, Rodgers will need his top players firing.

Revealed: 82% of West Ham fans want Aaron Cresswell to replace Arthur Masuaku vs Wolves

[ad_pod ]

Arthur Masuaku’s gung-ho spirit represents the mentality Manuel Pellegrini wants this West Ham side to have. The 24-year-old has always been exciting going forward, but defensively he often leaves much to be desired despite lining up at left-back for the Irons’ first three Premier League games of the season – which have seen them concede nine goals.

With that in mind, we asked West Ham fans earlier this week whether it’s time for Pellegrini to make a change in personnel to try and bring some balance back to this Irons defence and the response was a resounding yes.

Following Aaron Cresswell’s performance against Wimbledon in the Carabao Cup, 82% of West Ham supporters voted to axe the Frenchman from Pellegrini’s Premier League starting XI and bring the England international into the fold instead.

But is that the only change Pellegrini should make this weekend to ensure West Ham avoid a fourth consecutive defeat in the top flight? Let us know how you’d field the Hammers’ starting XI by commenting below…

Ethan Ampadu shows why Tottenham should have challenged Chelsea for his signature

[ad_pod ]

Chelsea youngster Ethan Ampadu produced a second successive impressive display on the international stage in the space of a few days for Wales as they fell to a 2-0 defeat against Denmark on Sunday.

The 17-year-old may have struggled to break into Maurizio Sarri’s squad in the Premier League so far this season, but it has been a completely different story for his country where he has started the games against the Republic of Ireland and the Scandanavian outfit during the current international break.

The talented 6ft tall teenager was handed a defensive midfield role by Ryan Giggs despite primarily being a centre-back, and he has shown his class both in terms of his defensive contribution and his distribution while on the ball – even if he did give away a penalty against the Danes at the weekend.

It was revealed earlier this year that Chelsea will only have to pay League Two side Exeter City up to £2.5m for Ampadu after the deal that brought him to Stamford Bridge was decided by a tribunal, and they are already looking as though they have got themselves a bargain.

Having signed Dele Alli from the lower leagues previously, Tottenham Hotspur looked to have a real eye for talent in the Football League, but they will surely be kicking themselves that they missed out on the accomplished 17-year-old, who had a passing accuracy of 90% against Denmark and showed his quality on the ball by successfully completing seven long balls.

The fact that he can play at centre-back or in defensive midfield means he would have been ideal for Spurs, and not bringing him to north London could prove to be one of Mauricio Pochettino’s biggest regrets in the long run.

Liverpool fans happy with Van Dijk v Mbappe preview as pair go head-to-head on global stage

In just over one week’s time, Liverpool will face a huge battle when they take on Paris Saint-Germain at Anfield in their opening Champions League Group C clash.

Jurgen Klopp’s side reached the final of the elite tournament last season, and they will have to navigate their way through PSG, Napoli and Red Star Belgrade in the hope of qualifying for the knockout rounds.

On Sunday, defender Virgil van Dijk had a taste of what he will be up against when he lined up for the Netherlands in their Nations League match against world champions France.

The centre-back had to try to nullify Kylian Mbappe’s threat, which is no easy task.

However, at one point during the match, the PSG star looked to be through on goal until Van Dijk administered a crucial tackle to stop the attacker in his tracks.

Van Dijk did not have much luck marking Olivier Giroud as he allowed the Frenchman to get away from him, which led to the winning goal for the hosts.

Despite that, Liverpool fans had plenty of praise for their defender’s ability to stop Mbappe.

Leeds fans split after Roberts display vs Millwall

Leeds continued their unbeaten start to the season at Millwall on Saturday, but fans are split over the performance of Tyler Roberts.

[ad_pod ]

Leeds have been devastated by injuries over the international break, as Patrick Bamford suffered a knee injury that will keep him out for around four months.

Kemar Roofe also picked up a knock, while Pablo Hernandez and Gaetano Berardi were unable to recover from the injuries they suffered before the break.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side still picked up a point at the Den though, as Jack Harrison’s wonderful late striker cancelled out a goal from Jed Wallace.

A draw at the Den to remain top of the league is certainly not a bad result, but fans aren’t convinced by the performance of Roberts.

The young Welsh striker started in the absence or Roofe, and despite having four shots was unable to find the net.

The youngster struggled with injuries last season, and while some fans are praising him for getting in good positions, others just simply don’t think he’s good enough.

Bernard can be the player to get Everton firing again

While it is still early days at Everton under Marco Silva, the team’s struggles both in attack and defence will come as a worry to supporters.

In their 3-1 defeat to West Ham at Goodison Park last weekend, Everton were wasteful in front of goal with both Cenk Tosun and Oumar Niasse missing good opportunities.

And if things do not change in that department, Silva may have to try something more innovative going forward, which could involve summer signing Bernard.

The Breakdown

The Brazilian impressed after coming on towards the end of the first half in Everton’s recent loss, and Silva has confirmed he is prepared to throw him into the deep end despite not being at one hundred percent match fitness.

Speaking ahead of the Arsenal game, Silva told reporters (via Sky Sports): “Bernard can help with everything we need.

“In his first 50 minutes he did well, he had a good impact in a difficult moment in the match. He is a different profile from the other wingers in our squad. A quality player and he will help us. If I need 90 minutes, he is ready for what I need.”

With £14.4m-rated (via Transfermarkt) Bernard now available, Silva should strongly consider bringing him into the attack in place of Richarlison or Theo Walcott then move one of the two up front.

Centre-forward has always been Walcott’s preferred position, while Richarlison did an excellent job playing there for Brazil during the last round of international fixtures.

There is still plenty of time for Tosun to find some form, of course, but the availability of Bernard can provide Silva with alternative options until then.

West Ham hopeful of Declan Rice deal before January

West Ham remain hopeful that the contract saga surrounding Declan Rice will end before the January transfer window, according to the BBC.

What’s the word?

Declan Rice has enjoyed a meteoric rise into the West Ham first-team in the past year and has impressed for Manuel Pellegrini’s side in recent weeks, catching the eye in the victory over Everton and the goalless draw with Chelsea.

The 19-year-old is regarded as the best graduate from West Ham’s renowned youth set-up in recent years and the Hammers are looking to secure the teenager down to a contract extension. However, he has snubbed their initial advances.

That has led to fears that the East London side could lose Rice for nothing when his current deal expires next season but a report from the BBC suggests fans should not be worried, as the Hammers are confident of reaching an agreement before January.

The key points

Not only are West Ham confident of securing Rice down to a new deal but the report adds there is no need for alarm bells to be ringing at the London Stadium as the teenager’s current deal has an option that means it is not due to expire until 2021.

Therefore, West Ham do not need to be rushed into a decision regarding the Republic of Ireland international but it does not mean they should delay a conclusion to the saga – as they need the stability that Rice provides.

Given his importance to the team, Rice certainly deserves an improvement on the deal that is currently on the table but the report should ease the concerns of fans amidst interest from rival Premier League sides.
