Liverpool must not let Nathaniel Clyne leave in January amid Leicester interest

According to the Mirror, Liverpool right-back Nathaniel Clyne is a January transfer target for Claude Puel’s Leicester, but the Reds must keep hold of the 27-year-old.

What’s the story?

Clyne has fallen behind youngster Trent Alexander-Arnold in the pecking order at Anfield, as the Scouse full-back seriously impressed whilst Clyne spent most of last season out with a back injury that required surgery.

Brendan Rodgers was the man who brought the London-born full-back to Liverpool from Southampton in 2015. The Reds paid £12.5m and Clyne quickly became first-choice for club and country for a short period before his injury troubles started.

So far this season Clyne has made just one appearance for the first-team, coming in the 2-1 loss to Chelsea in the Carabao Cup.

A huge mistake

If Leicester were to get their man in January though, Liverpool would be making a big mistake by selling Clyne. Jurgen Klopp’s side are finally looking like they have strength in depth across the pitch, and Clyne is a more than capable deputy who could be given more game time when he is fully fit.

Joe Gomez had been rotating with Alexander-Arnold at right-back whilst Clyne was out injured, but the former Charlton youngster is now relishing his starting spot alongside Virgil van Dijk at centre-back and will not want to be shifted out wide again.

If Liverpool are to challenge for the title in the coming years they will need an exceptionally strong squad as well as starting XI, and Clyne, who is valued at £18m by Transfermarkt, is a terrific full-back who just needs to get back to his best.

So, Liverpool fans, do you think the club should cash-in on Clyne in January or should Klopp keep him around? Have your say by voting in the poll below.

HYS: Should Welbeck be a summer target for Everton?

[ad_pod ]

Cenk Tosun calmed some concerns about Everton’s lacklustre striker options at the weekend when he opened his account against Fulham.

However, there is still a sense that Marco Silva could do with a proven goalscorer in his attack-minded team.

Majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri has shown that he is not afraid to splash the cash on transfers, but there could be a very cheap deal up for grabs.

In fact, the Merseyside outfit could potentially sign a Premier League striker on a free transfer.

Danny Welbeck’s contract at Arsenal is due to expire at the end of the season and at the moment there is no indication that he will be signing fresh terms.

In total, the England international has scored 31 goals in 119 appearances for the Gunners across four years.

This season, the first-team minutes have been few and far between under new manager Unai Emery as he is yet to start a Premier League match.

Welbeck has played 54 minutes of top-flight action across five substitute appearances, and if this continues he may seek a move away.

Would the Arsenal forward be a decent addition to the Everton line-up?

HYS: Should West Ham United move for Loftus-Cheek?

West Ham United manager Manuel Pellegrini made a splash in the summer transfer window by signing nine new faces.

Jack Wilshere and Carlos Sanchez were added to the midfield, but both are currently on the sidelines with injuries.

Mark Noble, Declan Rice and Pedro Obiang currently occupy the three-man midfield, but if one of them were to get injured, the Hammers’ options are minimal.

Perhaps Pellegrini should dip into the January market for cover, and Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek is a target that they could consider.

The England international, who was one of the surprise packages for his country at the 2018 World Cup, has struggled for game time at Stamford Bridge this season following Maurizio Sarri’s appointment as manager.

The 22-year-old, who is valued at £16.2m by Transfermarkt, has featured in just three matches this season – two in the Premier League and one in the Europa League.

Given that Ross Barkley is now ahead of him in the pecking order, Loftus-Cheek may be open to a loan move away in the winter.

Would he provide decent midfield cover at West Ham?

Liverpool interested in Chilwell and Lewis as possible Moreno replacements, fans react

[ad_pod ]

It will be no surprise if Liverpool left-back Alberto Moreno leaves the club at the end of the season.

The Spaniard is out of contract next summer and has fallen down the pecking order at Anfield.

According to The Mirror, 21-year-old Ben Chilwell is a target for the Reds after impressing at Leicester City.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is also keen on bringing through youth player Adam Lewis, who has been putting in positive displays in the academy ranks.

At the moment, Andrew Robertson is the first-choice left-back at Anfield and it does not look as though that will change any time soon.

The Scotland international has been a stellar addition to Klopp’s team since his arrival from Hull City in 2017.

However, if Moreno does end up leaving then Liverpool will have to recruit a new back-up.

On Reddit, some supporters have been discussing whether Chilwell and Lewis are decent and realistic replacements.

Comment from discussion Moreno doesn’t want to renew his contract after losing his place, but LFC will keep him until the summer, where they hope to line up a replacement, with Ben Chilwell a long term target, and Klopp a big admirer of the left back, but Klopp also likes Adam Lewis.Comment from discussion Moreno doesn’t want to renew his contract after losing his place, but LFC will keep him until the summer, where they hope to line up a replacement, with Ben Chilwell a long term target, and Klopp a big admirer of the left back, but Klopp also likes Adam Lewis.Comment from discussion Moreno doesn’t want to renew his contract after losing his place, but LFC will keep him until the summer, where they hope to line up a replacement, with Ben Chilwell a long term target, and Klopp a big admirer of the left back, but Klopp also likes Adam Lewis.Comment from discussion Moreno doesn’t want to renew his contract after losing his place, but LFC will keep him until the summer, where they hope to line up a replacement, with Ben Chilwell a long term target, and Klopp a big admirer of the left back, but Klopp also likes Adam Lewis.Comment from discussion Moreno doesn’t want to renew his contract after losing his place, but LFC will keep him until the summer, where they hope to line up a replacement, with Ben Chilwell a long term target, and Klopp a big admirer of the left back, but Klopp also likes Adam Lewis.Comment from discussion Moreno doesn’t want to renew his contract after losing his place, but LFC will keep him until the summer, where they hope to line up a replacement, with Ben Chilwell a long term target, and Klopp a big admirer of the left back, but Klopp also likes Adam Lewis.Comment from discussion Moreno doesn’t want to renew his contract after losing his place, but LFC will keep him until the summer, where they hope to line up a replacement, with Ben Chilwell a long term target, and Klopp a big admirer of the left back, but Klopp also likes Adam Lewis.Comment from discussion Moreno doesn’t want to renew his contract after losing his place, but LFC will keep him until the summer, where they hope to line up a replacement, with Ben Chilwell a long term target, and Klopp a big admirer of the left back, but Klopp also likes Adam Lewis.

HYS: Is Kent good enough for Liverpool right now?

Liverpool’s Premier League title challenge remains on course as they currently sit second in the table on level points with leaders Manchester City.

The results on paper do not reflect the performances on the pitch as Jurgen Klopp’s team have not yet hit their scintillating stride.

Collectively, Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane are yet to recreate the form that earned them so many plaudits last season.

One man who is not struggling to perform in front of goal is Ryan Kent, who is on loan at Rangers for the season from Liverpool.

The 21-year-old has been learning under former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard and so far he has been thriving.

The winger has made 18 appearances in all competitions and in total has netted three goals, two of which came in his last two outings.

Kent, who has also bagged an assist, has suggested that he would like to stay at Rangers permanently, but is he good enough to get into the current Liverpool side?

West Ham United should target Gary Cahill in January despite resistance of the fans

[ad_pod ]

West Ham United have a lack of top drawer centre-backs on offer, so must target Chelsea outcast Gary Cahill even if not every fan agrees.

What’s the word?

It was revealed earlier this month in The Mirror that West Ham were eying a potential January move for the Blues centre-back as the 61-cap ex-England international’s deal at Stamford Bridge continued to progress into its final year.

With the prospect of losing Cahill for nothing next summer, the resistance at Chelsea to keep the 32-year-old would likely be thin, and the West Ham board were said to fully support Manuel Pellegrini in recruiting necessary additions in the mid-season sale.

At the time of The Mirror’s story on the Irons pondering over a move, The Sun reported that the Pensioners’ current longest serving player was also considering his future in south London, saying: “I’m definitely finding it difficult this year to deal with that situation but that is football.

“Everything gradually comes to an end or there’s a new challenge around the corner.

“I’m not a guy who is willing to accept not playing. It’s all about playing.”

Ignore the resistance amongst Hammers’ fans

A recent poll carried out amongst Football FanCast readers found that a staggering 75% of the fan-base did not want Pellegrini or the board to go anywhere near the centre-back who has featured 61 times for his country, including captaining the side against Belgium at this summer’s World Cup in Russia.

While signing someone the fans will get behind can be important, it ought to be ignored in this instance for Cahill still has something to offer in the Premier League and the London Stadium should be his next home.

In West Ham luring the Champions League and two-time Premier League winner to east London, they would be benefitting from a defender who has a wealth of experience that the current starters, whilst performing to a high standard, do not necessarily have.

Pablo Zabaleta certainly does not let age get in the way of adding to the Irons backline, despite being 33 years of age in a position that often requires a zip of pace to buzz around the pitch.

West Ham must surely act quickly and bring Cahill to the London Stadium before he considers a U-turn and sees out the remaining months of his contract to aid a first title challenge under Maurizio Sarri, with Paris Saint-Germain also reportedly chasing the Hammers’ Issa Diop in a shock £50million move.

Joe Rodon: The man to bring class back to Celtic’s shaky defence

Celtic booked their place in the Scottish League Cup final with a dominant 3-0 victory over Hearts on Sunday.

The Hoops had to wait until the second half to break the deadlock, but the floodgates were soon open. Scott Sinclair opened the scoring from the penalty spot before a goalkeeping error allowed James Forrest to double their advantage. A superb late goal from Ryan Christie completed the 19-minute rout and ensured Celtic passage into the cup final.

Brendan Rodgers deserves plenty of praise for the victory with Celtic missing a number of key defenders for the clash. Despite their inconsistent start to the new campaign, the Bhoys looked back to their brilliant best. Rodgers will be hoping their form continues in the coming weeks as Celtic look to climb the Scottish Premiership table.

Attention will also turn to transfers when the window opens in just two months time. With Celtic desperately in need of defensive reinforcements, Rodgers should attempt to sign Swansea defender – Joe Rodon. Valued at only £225k by Transfermarkt, the defender has been in fine form for Rodgers’ former club, and the Northern Irishman should attempt to lure him to Parkhead.

Rodon has one of the stand out stars in the Championship, and his excellent form was rewarded with a call-up to the Wales national team. His development has been rapid and the 21-year-old looks set to blossom into one of the country’s finest defenders. Rodon is a fantastic passer and is comfortable with the ball at his feet meaning he would slot seamlessly into Rodgers’ system at Celtic Park.

Not since Virgil van Dijk have Celtic had a defender who can dictate games from the back – Rodon could be the ideal replacement.

Phil Jones and Jamaal Lascelles would be a Newcastle United partnership for years to come

Newcastle secured their long-awaited first win of the Premier League season at the weekend against high-flying Watford.

The Magpies could have gone behind in the first-half with both Gerard Deulofeu and Adrian Mariappa missing chances that should have opened the scoring for the Hornets. Rafael Benitez’s side dug in and broke the deadlock just past the hour mark with Ayoze Perez heading home. Newcastle managed to hold on to end their winless run and move out of the Premier League relegation zone.

It was far from a great performance, but three points are all that Benitez will care about. Once again, Newcastle failed to create clear-cut chances against Javi Gracia’s men and will have to improve to get a result against Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth next week. As well as fixture preparation, the Spaniard must also be keeping tabs on potential January transfer targets that could improve his squad.

One man he should attempt to sign is Manchester United outcast – Phil Jones. Valued at £18m by Transfermarkt, the former England international joined the Red Devils after impressing for Blackburn Rovers but has never really fulfilled his potential at Old Trafford. After slipping down the pecking order under Jose Mourinho, reports suggest that Jones will now be allowed to leave the club with United set to spend big on a new defender when the window reopens.

If he can sort out his injury troubles, Jones could prove to be an excellent signing for the Magpies. The Englishman would be a massive upgrade on Newcastle’s current defenders and would provide Jamaal Lascelles with a quality partner at the heart of the defence. Still only 26-years-old, Jones is yet to hit the prime of his career.

With his contract expiring in less than 12 months, Benitez could secure a bargain.

Cristiano Biraghi could bring stability to Arsenal’s left-hand side

Unai Emery would be wise to target a new left-back when the January transfer window opens.

The Spaniard has been forced to use Granit Xhaka on the left of defence at times this season when both Sead Kolasinac and Nacho Monreal were sidelined. Despite the Bosnian returning to full fitness, doubts remain over Monreal’s long-term future at the club. The Spaniard is approaching the twilight of his playing career, and Emery would be wise to target a long-term replacement to complete Arsenal’s back four.

One man he must be keeping tabs on is Fiorentina full-back Cristiano Biraghi.

Valued at just £6.75m by Transfermarkt, the left-back joined the club permanently in the summer from Pescara for a little over £1m after spending a season on loan with La Viola. Since moving to the Serie A side, Biraghi has gone from strength-to-strength and earned his first call-up to the senior Italy national side as a result of his impressive showings.

The former Inter Milan defender has been a crucial player during his 11 Serie A appearances so far, helping his side’s cause with one goal and two assists so far. Biraghi also chipped in with a goal for Italy during their UEFA Nations League game against Poland to secure a 1-0 win back in October. The defender loves to contribute to the attack and has completed an impressive 1.9 crosses and 1.5 key passes per game this season which could mean even more goals for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the attack. The 26-year-old doesn’t neglect his defensive duties though and reads the game expertly, averaging 2.1 interceptions per game this season (WhoScored).

Unsurprisingly, both Inter and AC Milan have shown an interest in his services according to reports, but the Gunners must ensure they beat the Italian giants to his signature.

West Ham fans absolutely love Issa Diop’s comments

[ad_pod ]

When considering that this is his first season in English football, Issa Diop has performed very well for West Ham United in the opening months of the 2018-19 campaign.

Diop missed West Ham’s first two league games of the season, but has played in all 10 top-flight fixtures since, and was labelled a ‘monster’ by Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho for his performance against the Red Devils earlier this season.

Diop did cost £22m from Toulouse during the summer, but is just 21 years of age, and he should be pleased with his early-season form.

That does not seem to be the case, however, with the Frenchman insisting – in quotes carried by West Ham’s official website – that he needs to improve having ‘not played well’ since arriving at the London Stadium.

Whether the central defender actually believes that he has been under-par is another matter entirely, but those were his words.

Check out the video below to see how Brazil fans reacted to being asked how Cristiano Ronaldo would peform for them in a hilarious prank by Playmaker FC…

As expected, the quotes brought a response from the West Ham fans, with the majority hailing the summer arrival for his desire to improve.
