According to reports from The Daily Mail, Tottenham have identified Ryan Sessegnon as a key target for the summer transfer window, which is no surprise considering the Fulham prodigy is playing Premier League football at just 18 years of age.

But it’s not been the best season for the teenager. Amid the Cottagers’ relegation plight, he’s only managed two goals and six assists in the Premier League. So, what does Sessegnon need to improve upon to become a success in north London and ascend to superstar status in a Tottenham shirt? Our writers give their verdicts below…

James Beavis – Nail down a position

“He needs to nail down a position – is he a left-back, a left wing-back or a left winger? The youngster has played in all three roles for Fulham this season and it is still unclear which is his best. His stats in the Championship last term certainly suggest that he is made for a role further forward rather than solely being a defender, and he has hardly altered that opinion during the current campaign. Sessegnon needs to nail down the left wing role in the coming weeks, to prove he will add something Spurs don’t already have ahead of Danny Rose or Ben Davies next term.”

Ben Goodwin – Improve defensively

“Regardless of which position he ends up in, Sessegnon needs to improve defensively. Perhaps unsurprisingly at just 18 years of age, he has struggled with the physicality of the league this season. Technically he’s already superb but until he improves his defensive positioning and awareness and gets used to some rough and tumble, he will not be an upgrade for the north Londoners.”

Jack Saville – Positioning and awareness

“Sessegnon is a raw talent and Pochettino would inherit a huge project if Tottenham secure a deal this summer. He has to improve just about everything in his armoury to realise his potential, but it’s his positioning work which needs particular attention, as well as his all-round awareness. Not only will this enhance his credentials to play at both left-back and left-wing, it will prevent him from being needlessly caught in possession.”

Christy Malyan – Strength and power

“Footballers come in all shapes and sizes but if Sessegnon is to follow the same trajectory as Gareth Bale, the player he’s been most commonly compared to, then improving his strength and power is a must. The Welsh international only really became a superstar when he filled out his lanky frame and while Sessegnon doesn’t have the same natural height, he needs more strength to stop himself being muscled out in the Premier League and more power to make those quick runs all the more explosive. Even Eden Hazard boasts deceptive strength for a player of his size – Sessegnon seems to lack that at the moment.”

Sky Sports pundit Matt Murray has dropped a hint that Aston Villa loan star Axel Tuanzebe must be giving Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer something to think about next season.

What’s the word?

Tuanzebe is currently in his second loan spell with Villa after initially joining the club in January 2018. The defender impressed so much that the Villans then swooped for him again last summer.

However, his development this term was halted by an injury that has only just seen him return this month after being absent since December.

Before that, he was impressing the Villa Park faithful and despite reports suggesting United may be looking to loan the player out again next season, Sky Sports’ Murray insists Solskjaer must be looking at a player like him ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.

Speaking to The Debate podcast at 37:15, he said:

“And Tuanzebe coming back, he’s so good at the back. I’m looking at that Manchester United team today and surely Solskjaer will be looking at people like him next season.”

Can Tuanzebe answer United’s problems?

There’s no denying where United’s main issue is; defence. Although Tuanzebe is still only 21, he could be the long term answer, especially given his ability to play in the middle of defence and at right back.

Antonio Valencia’s contract is due to expire in the summer and the form of Ashley Young at right-back has been questionable so it’s an area he could become quite useful in.

Even at centre-back, the club’s options are far from convincing and an impressive end to the season for the loanee might do enough to force him into the back of the current United boss’ mind.

The main concern with the player lies with his fitness problems but his potential and his displays for Villa when he has been fit means Solskjaer should consider developing him within the club next season.

Tottenham fans have yet again had a memorable season without any silverware coming there way, something that is surely going to change soon right?

For how good they have been at times, it still seems that Spurs are miles away from their rivals and need several upgrades to keep up the level of pressure they have been applying in recent years. Over a league season, we mean. The win over Manchester City in the Champions League proved Tottenham can beat anyone over two games, though the next phase of the project needs to be over a 38-game long domestic campaign.

With the sparkling new stadium getting more compliments by the game, it’s about time Tottenham just went for it in the transfer window and brought exactly what they needed to win some silverware to match the ambition of the stadium move.

A back-up striker is a position likely to be explored this summer and Celta Vigo’s Maxi Gomez is one player linked (via the Daily Mirror) that could really be a fantastic signing for Spurs.

Gomez, (who is valued at £31.5 million on Transfermarkt) is a no-nonsense forward that could really do the business for Tottenham, so Daniel Levy must get straight on it.

A trouble that Tottenham have is that very rarely will strikers want to join a club to be second choice, like they would with Spurs behind Harry Kane.

But if they managed to persuade anyone, it really should be Maxi Gomez.

The Uruguayan forward has supplied 11 goals for Celta Vigo this season, despite them being amongst the relegation battle.

That, without a doubt, shows that he is capable of producing the quality even when his team-mates can’t, meaning his goal contribution would only rise with better players surrounding him at Tottenham. Having a reliable hit-man such as Maxi Gomez could mean that Tottenham could benefit from more team rotation and different systems can be explored by Mauricio Pochettino.

وارتبط اسم لاوتارو خلال الأشهر الماضية بإمكانية الانتقال إلى برشلونة، لكن الأخير لم ينجح في توفير السيولة المالية الكافية للانقضاض على مهاجم إنتر ميلان.

وطلب إنتر ميلان الحصول على مبلغ 110 مليون يورو نظير التفريط في لاوتارو، وحاول برشلونة التوصل مع نظيره الإيطالي لاتفاق بشأن الصفقة من خلال جزء من المال بجانب بعض اللاعبين ينتقلون إلى صفوفه لكن رفضت إدارة النيراتزوري جميع تلك المحاولات.

وعلق وكيل لاوتارو مارتينيز، بيتو ياكي، على مفاوضات التجديد مع إنتر ميلان خلال الفترة الماضية كما زعمت الصحافة الإيطالية، وقال في تصريحات لصحيفة “أوليه” الأرجنتينية: “لا توجد مفاوضات حتى الآن مع النادي”.

وتابع: “لم يقدم إنتر ميلان عرضًا بعد ولم يطلب لاوتارو المزيد من المال كما يردد البعض، هذه كلها أكاذيب، لا توجد مشاكل اقتصادية مع النادي لكننا نتحدث عن أسباب أخرى”.

وأتم تصريحاته: “من الواضح أن هناك اهتمامات أخرى بالفعل (أندية جديدة) لضم اللاعب ونحن نتعامل مع هذا الأمر بكل تأكيد”.

They might be undisputed champions right now, but Celtic always need to keep an eye for the future.

To maintain their dominance in the long-run, the Hoops have to give more attention towards the young talents and overseeing their rise within the club.

As they’re impressive academy’s capable of producing some top-class players, Liam Morrison’s the latest gem to have come through the system. The 16-year-old’s been touted as the best up and coming centre-half in Scottish football, especially after watching his solid work for Scotland’s U-17 team.

Yet, the Hoops are in danger of losing this prized talent. According to reports (via The Scottish Sun), German side Hoffenheim are keen on signing him this summer, with the Bhoys reportedly fearing an exit after being braced for interest. They want to get the benefits from the hot-property, but Celtic cannot allow that. For a side who gave rise to Virgil van Dijk in the past, they could mould Morrison into another top-class defender.

Or maybe they won’t. That’s the thing with young players but why risk it? Keep young talent in-house, it’s the smart thing to do.

While the German side may be able to offer the new somewhat hipster route of young British talent heading to the Bundesliga, Celtic needs to stamp their authority on this one. They cannot allow themselves to be ousted again, that too when it comes to keeping their own young star. The Hoops need to make the 16-year-old sign his professional contract soon and continue his stunning development.

Morrison has all the skills to be a commanding centre-back very soon. He’s already disrupting attacks and leading the defensive line superbly. With their own defenders leaving almost every passing year, the Hoops need to retain this golden prospect to make him their long-term defensive general.

Arsenal manager Unai Emery is still confident of the club finishing in the top four this season, despite their 3-1 defeat to Wolves on Wednesday, per BBC Sport.

The Gunners are now fifth, one point behind Chelsea and four behind third-placed Tottenham Hotspur.

What’s the word?

Arsenal turned in a roundly terrible display against Nuno Espirito Santo’s side on Wednesday.

They dominated possession but had very little to show for it, failing to truly test goalkeeper Rui Patricio and ultimately falling to an embarrassing defeat.

The result continues Arsenal’s woeful away record this season – they have won just six times on the road, fewer than both Leicester City and Crystal Palace.

With three games of the season remaining, the Gunners play at home once, against Brighton & Hove Albion, and travel to Leicester City and Burnley.

And Emery, despite what the formbook might tell you, remains confident that the Gunners can secure a top-four finish.

He said, per BBC: “We lost from our hands the opportunity for fourth, but we can also recover this opportunity.”

Emery admits that it will be “difficult” for Arsenal to overhaul Chelsea, who play top-four rivals Manchester United this weekend, but is choosing to remain optimistic.

He added: “Top four is the target, a difficult target.

“We have lost in the last two matches, to Crystal Palace and here, but the last three matches we play in the Premier League we have opportunities.

“Generally we are disappointed but we need to look at all the season. We need to prepare as best as possible for Leicester. Again it is very difficult but hopefully we can take something.”

Form guide makes for grim viewing

This really doesn’t appear very likely.

Arsenal’s form has taken a nosedive at the worst possible time and they have suffered three defeats in their last five Premier League games.

Trips to both Leicester and Burnley are tricky, with the Foxes offering the attributes that the Gunners hate: pace and physicality.

It remains to be seen if Arsenal can correct the course but, with the fixture list as it is, there is precious little reason for Emery to be optimistic.

Perhaps he has to say it. After all, he can’t really believe it.

وواصل: “إنتر ميلان جيد للغاية، والفريق مع كونتي يقدم أداء رائعًا، ولكن أعتقد اليوم غياب لوكاكو سوف يُسبب لهم مشكلة”.

وعن رأيه في إيدين هازارد، جناح الفريق، أوضح: “إنه لاعب مُختلف، وهو اللاعب الذي قادر على صنع الفارق لـ ريال مدريد”.

وأتم تصريحاته بالحديث عن سيرجيو راموس قائد اللوس بلانكوس قائلًا: “عندما كنت مدربًا للفريق، كان راموس طفلًا يحب التدريب والعمل حقًا، ولقد أراد دائمًا التحسّن”.

Everton are way off challenging for the top six as it stands, but if they can sign Bruno Fernandes, he’d give them that boost required to battle it out with the big guns.

The Toffees have been inconsistent this season, proving they’re capable of beating top six sides but then faltering against teams they should be brushing aside. A well-rounded midfielder like Fernandes would add some continuity Marco Silva needs.

He’s lit up the Portuguese top division this season, scoring 16 goals and making 12 assists from 30 appearances. His performances have attracted suitors from right across Europe, and Record via Sport Witness believed Everton have joined the race too.

The Portuguese attacking midfielder is rated at £31.5m on Transfermarkt, but expect there to be a bidding war for him this summer. As per his season stats on the same website, he’s been involved in 47 goals this season. 47. Ludicrous stuff.

Indeed, Everton should offer as much money as they have available for him, because if they can capture him, it’d trump making Andre Gomes’ move permanent by a mile.

He’s only 24-years-old and still has just under 10 years left at the very top. He’d be the lynchpin Marco Silva needs to break into that top six. It’d also give those top teams a scare, making them realise that this Everton project means business.

If Brands can seal that deal, it could be their most successful since the glory days and the club know it. It’d be a massive step up from Gomes and would give everyone surrounding the club the belief they can make it back to the top.
