There has already been some activity over at the Hawthorns with much more expected as the transfer window closes later on Thursday evening.

Charlie Austin is reportedly speaking to the club over a possible permanent switch from Southampton whilst loan deals for Grady Diangana and Matheus Pereira are expected before the close of play.

West Brom have also announced a pair of outgoings this morning with promising youngsters Sam Field and Jonathan Leko joining fellow Championship outfit Charlton Athletic on season-long loans.

The talented duo have already linked up with Lee Bowyer’s side ahead of their weekend fixture against Stoke City but are unable to feature for the Addicks when the two sides lock horns later in the season.

Sporting and technical director Luke Dowling said: “With the players we are recruiting this summer, it’s an opportunity to maintain their development.

“The worst thing for them would have been to keep them around the group here. They are past the level of under-23s football.”

Verdict

To some extent, Dowling is right. The move is the best option for both players. They are far too talented to be playing youth football anymore but their development could stall if they aren’t exposed to the first-team under Slaven Bilic this season.

If the Croatian cannot fit either into his squad regularly then it makes sense for them to continue their development temporarily away from the Hawthorns.

The Baggies have a wealth of quality in wide areas so the Leko move is absolutely the right decision – there would have been little chance of the 20-year-old nudging ahead of either Matt Phillips or Oliver Burke on the right flank.

Moving Field out however could be slightly more questionable especially if you ask members of the West Brom support as they believe he is potentially a better option than Jake Livermore whilst they only have Romaine Sawyers, Filip Krovinovic and Rekeem Harper as other options in that position.

Though if either of the pair light up the Championship down in south-east London, the club will be able to recall them in January which makes the move all that smarter.

وأضاف: “كل منا يعرف أن المنافسة شرسة في دوري أبطال إفريقيا، علينا أن نقدم أداءً جيدًا سواء في الدوري التنزاني أو في مبارياتنا الإفريقية، حتى تواصل الجماهير مساندتنا في المستقبل”.

وأتم تصريحاته: “لن نخذلهم، نعلم ما يتوقعونه وسنسعى جاهدين لمنحهم ما يريدونه”.

West Brom have started the season unbeaten after four games and they are potentially lucky to still have that intact after the draw with Reading on Wednesday evening.

Ovie Ejaria’s curling effort into the top corner looked like it was to be enough to secure a victory at the Hawthorns in what was a very frustrating match for Albion.

The Baggies had two penalty shouts turned down until one was finally given with just two minutes left on the clock – substitute Kenneth Zohore coolly stepped up to slot home the equaliser, his first for his new club.

Slaven Bilic had made changes to his starting line-up, most notably at right-back, as £1.5m summer signing Darnell Furlong was handed a debut in place of youngster Nathan Ferguson.

The teenager had done no wrong in his three Championship appearances and even earned the Man of the Match award in front of the TV cameras on the opening weekend. He is averaging a WhoScored rating of 7.03, which is the third-highest in the squad.

The Croatian may well have a selection headache on his hands as Furlong impressed.

West Brom face one of their toughest games yet on Saturday as they head to Pride Park to lock horns with Midlands rivals Derby County in the early kickoff.

And ahead of the game, Bilic expressed his ‘love’ for the 23-year-old Furlong following his impressive showing. He said:

“He’s got good stamina, great skill, great first touch, can go up and down. I love him, he played really good.”

The former QPR man recorded the most attempted tackles on the pitch (six) with 66% of them being successful. He also managed two clearances, two dribbles, a block and an interception – according to WhoScored.

In Ferguson’s three Championship matches, he’s averaging less tackles per game at 2.3 as well as fewer dribbles per match at 1.3 but is recording one more interception.

The key difference is that Furlong may be the better option when Bilic wants his full-backs to attack, as aforementioned the 5 foot 11 defender had more dribbles on Wednesday night, but he also put in more crosses with one compared to Ferguson’s 0.3 per game.

Ferguson’s debut saw him gain possession eight times which also included four tackles, only going to show his ability in defence.

That leaves Bilic with a difficult choice to make but either way he should feel blessed with the two solid options at his disposal, both could get just as much game time as the other.

Need to be more defensive? Play Ferguson. More attacking? Play Furlong.

West Brom continued their unbeaten run in the Championship last weekend as they salvaged a point against Derby County at Pride Park in what quickly became the ‘battle of the penalties.’

The home side took an early lead through a Martyn Waghorn spot-kick and should have doubled the lead with their second penalty of the match right before half-time, but Baggies goalkeeper Sam Johnstone was equal to it this time.

Slaven Bilic’s men then needed one of their own late on to rescue a point as for the second time in a week, Kenneth Zohore stepped up to slot home from 12 yards out.

The match clearly frustrated the Croatian as he managed to get sent off by Gavin Ward following two yellow cards.

It is believed that the West Brom boss will accept the charge by taking a fine, which would mean he is able to be in the dugout for this weekend’s tie against Blackburn Rovers.

Bilic has since admitted that it is something he needs to manage, he said:

“I will have to work on it; I will have to control myself.”

Several fans at the Hawthorns have reacted to the news as one described the officiating on Saturday as ‘pathetic’ whilst another claimed the referee was poor for both sides.

One supporter stated that he likes to see a manager with passion on the touchline.

Martin Keown believes Mo Salah is destined to pick up another individual award this campaign having made improvements to his game.

What did he say?

Liverpool have big aspirations this season to better their second-place finish last season and Salah’s goals could be crucial to achieving their first title win since 1990.

Last year Salah finished as joint-highest goalscorer with 22, level with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and teammate Sadio Mane.

Writing for The Daily Mail, Keown suggested Salah has a very good chance of winning it outright this time around, ahead of the Senegal international.

He said: “If Liverpool are going to be champions, it has to be Mohamed Salah. He will pip Sadio Mane this season.

“Salah went through a spell where he struggled to score last season, but I see more in his play this year than I have before.”

The Egyptian has scored the most Premier League goals of any player since he arrived in 2017, and given Liverpool’s current winning habit, and his goalscoring form, it is likely that he will maintain that record.

Enough to win the league?

Keown appears careful to point out that Salah will finish as top scorer if Liverpool win the league, as over the last few years it has been rare for the top goalscorer to win the league – it last occurred in 2013.

What is more interesting is the former Arsenal player’s assessment that Salah has improved.

Whilst he has maintained his high level of finishing, the key difference so far is how sharp he is. His goal against Norwich highlighted his instinct and how that helps him to not only take up the right positions, but to react to a loose ball and drive into the box.

That will be vital to him and Liverpool breaking down defensive teams, and his runs in the penalty area are likely to cause all manner of problems. His penalty win against Arsenal was an example of that, and if the 27-year-old continues to put those away it will be difficult for Mane to keep up, as Keown suggests.

Ultimately, his goals could be inconsequential to a league victory. In 2017/18 he scored an incredible 32 league goals but his team finished fourth, and although the Reds have improved since, as their points total last season indicates, they are still reliant on Manchester City faltering.

كما جاء اختيار بابا فاسيليو للأهلي في ظل العلاقة الطيبة التي تربطه بالمسئولين والمدير الفني بيتسو موسيماني، الذي سبق أنه واجهه لاعبًا في الدوري اليوناني، ومدربًا عندما واجهه خلال قيادة وادي دجلة.

ووجه بابا فاسيليو الشكر إلى النادي الأهلي ومسئوليه، بعد السماح له بالتواجد اليوم داخل النادي الأهلي، لمساعدته عمليا في تجديد رخصته التدريبية من خلال الدراسة التي يقوم بإعدادها في الوقت الحالي.

After an impressive year which involved trophy wins and captaining his national team, Mario Melchiot believes it could be the right time for Virgil van Dijk to win the top prize in world football.

What did he say?

The last defender to win the Ballon d’Or was Fabio Cannavaro in 2006 but there has arguably never been more clamour for a defender to win it since than van Dijk.

The 28-year-old would be more than deserving, too, having featured 50 times for a Liverpool side which won the Champions League and lost just once in the Premier League, achieving the third-highest points total in the league’s history in the process.

The former Dutch international has been impressed with van Dijk’s journey, and recognised the talent he had early on when the Liverpool man was playing for Groningen in his native Netherlands.

Speaking to Goal, Melchiot said: “He can take a striker out of the game and he has a coach that anyone would want to play for. The only thing is, people now see him as a special player. A small mistake will seem like a big mistake, but I don’t think he will struggle with that.

“He is also Holland’s captain. He’s a great player, he brought calmness to Liverpool even in the Champions League final. He has proven himself as one of the best, he should definitely be amongst the top picks for the Ballon d’Or. This could be his moment.”

The defender faces significant competition from the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, but having picked up the UEFA Men’s Player of the Year he could be in line to pip the world’s best to another award.

Deserving winner

Messi and Ronaldo’s ten-year dominance was broken last year when Luka Modric picked up the prestigious award, and it could be argued that neither have improved remarkably since in order to reclaim the top spot – not in comparison to van Dijk.

Between the time of voting in 2017 and 2018 Ronaldo had scored 43 goals, with Messi on 46, and neither were deemed good enough to win. Since then, the Juventus man has scored 21, whilst the Argentine is on 37 goals without playing a game this season.

From those stats, Ronaldo would have to improve significantly to win, making the Barcelona man the only player who could feasibly threaten van Dijk, and his teammate Gerard Pique believes it could be a two-horse race between the pair.

Cannavaro’s 2006 World Cup win was rewarded by winning the Ballon d’Or, and in a non-World Cup year van Dijk has done the next best thing by helping his side to the Champions League, as well as guiding his national team to the UEFA Nations League final, and therefore is in with a great shout of replicating the Italian’s feat.

وأضاف: “أصبح نيمار لديه شخصية أقوى، وأرقامه تتحدث عنه في باريس سان جيرمان، ودائمًا ما يضيف الكثير لنا في المنتخب”.

نيمار لعب في 103 مباراة وسجل 83 هدفًا وصنع 47 مع باريس سان جيرمان في مختلف المسابقات منذ انتقاله إلى الفريق في 2017.

ويعاني البرازيلي الآن من إصابة أبعدته عن ذهاب دور الـ16 من بطولة دوري أبطال أوروبا ضد برشلونة، ويأمل في العودة إيابًا.

أكد شوقي غريب المدير الفني لمنتخب مصر الأولمبي أنه يتمنى انضمام محمد صلاح نجم ليفربول الإنجليزي في أولمبياد طوكيو.
