Everton’s Gylfi Sigurdsson got on the scoresheet for his country on Tuesday but he largely failed to impress as Iceland slumped to a 4-2 defeat against Albania.

The attacking midfielder equalised for his side in what was his 20th goal for Iceland, and although he showed the composure to slot the ball into the bottom corner, it was a simple finish for a player of his quality.

Sigurdsson has got off to a mixed start to the season. He has provided quality from out wide and has an assist to show for his efforts, but he hasn’t had much luck in scoring for the Toffees as yet, with his only goal from the penalty spot.

While some fans may have been encouraged by his goalscoring display for his country, he was largely underwhelming and a repeat performance against Bournemouth on Sunday will not be appreciated by Marco Silva nor the Goodison Park faithful.

The 30-year-old is often pivotal for his national side, acting as a focal point in midfield, keeping the ball and creating chances for teammates, but he was lacking in all departments against Albania, as shown in his stats on Sofascore.

As well as grabbing Iceland’s first goal, Sigurdsson also missed a valuable chance to equalise once again just ten minutes later, and although Kolbeinn Sigþórsson was able to level things, the former Swansea player is seemingly yet to reach his clinical best this campaign.

Perhaps more importantly, the Toffees man failed to get going in other areas of the pitch, which arguably explains Iceland’s lack of control over the match and their ultimate defeat.

A passing accuracy of 61% is almost unacceptable for a midfielder in a European Championship qualifier, and a huge failing in comparison to his average of 75.5% for Everton in the Premier League this term.

In total, he made just 11 successful passes, so it is not surprising that his side failed to create many openings. That kind of form will not impress Silva.

The No.10 was also wasteful in other aspects of his game, losing possession on 17 different occasions, while his six shots off target prove it was a day to forget.

Some Southampton fans have taken to Twitter to show their adoration towards Sofiane Boufal’s kind gesture following the 1-0 win over Sheffield United.

The Saints managed to survive a scare when Oli McBurnie appeared to open the scoring, only for VAR to rule the former Swansea man as offside, before Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side went on to grab the game’s only goal themselves.

Summer signing Moussa Djenepo netted his second goal for the club, and it was another strike which caught the eye – the Mali international sidestepped Oliver Norwood with a fantastic piece of skill before dropping a shoulder and slotting home.

However, it was his teammate’s gesture after the final whistle that had the Saints fans on Twitter talking.

Morocco international Boufal – who has four goals in total for the club – jumped the advertising hoardings before handing his shirt to a supporter in a wheelchair, to the delight of many fans.

ماكيني أدار هذا الموسم في دوري أبطال أوروبا 6 مباريات، أبرزها كانت مواجهة يوفنتوس وبرشلونة التي انتهت بثنائية للنادي الكتالوني في إيطاليا.

وأدار مباراة في دور الـ16 أيضًا، بين إشبيلية وبوروسيا دورتموند، في الذهاب خلال فبراير الماضي.

وكان ماكيني ضمن الحُكام الذين أداروا مباريات في مونديال الأندية الأخير بـ قطر، حيث أدار مباراة بالميراس وتيجيريس في نصف النهائي.

في الدوري الهولندي، ادار ماكيني 16 مباراة كانت أبرزها القمة بين أياكس وأيندهوفن، 28 فبراير الماضي، وخلال الـ16 لقاء أشهر 46 بطاقة صفراء، و 4 كروت حمراء.

A number of Manchester United fans have begged their club to sign James Maddison from Leicester City as soon as possible.

The 22-year-old, who has been linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks, scored a stunner against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

Indeed, the attacker’s late goal decided the contest at the King Power Stadium, and a whole host of United supporters took to social media during the Premier League affair.

According to WhoScored, in addition to finding the back of the net, Maddison had four dribbles and managed four shots during an all-action performance.

The strike against Spurs was Maddison’s first in the Premier League this season, although he did net against Newcastle United in the EFL Cup late last month.

Liverpool fans have been left baffled by some comments from former midfielder Danny Murphy, who picked two Manchester United players he believes Jurgen Klopp would take at Anfield.

In case you’ve been living under a rock since Sir Alex Ferguson retired, Liverpool are good and Manchester United are bad now.

The Reds have started the new Premier League campaign in electric form, taking 21 points from seven games, following on from a season in which they suffered just one league defeat.

The Red Devils meanwhile have been resigned to Thursday night football in Europe’s second-rate competition, and before the clash against Arsenal on Monday night they sit just three points away from the relegation zone, but a whopping 13 points from the top of the table.

Murphy though, believes Klopp would take Marcus Rashford and Daniel James on Merseyside, writing in his column for The Daily Mail: “United need more quality to catch up to their rivals but that doesn’t mean they don’t have any at the club.

“I think Jurgen Klopp would take Marcus Rashford and Daniel James all day long, they would fit in with his philosophy very well.”

Alexis Sanchez has talked to UEFA ahead of Inter Milan’s clash against Barcelona at the Camp Nou and the former Blaugrana ace revealed that the Italian giants must not miss any chances if they want to take a result back to Italy.

What did he say?

The 30-year-old Chilean is a name well known to the Barcelona community.

Sanchez was a part of Blaugrana’s family from 2011 until 2014, when he joined Arsenal. During his stay in the Catalan capital, he managed to play a total of 141 games, scoring 47 goals and assisting a further 35.

He also won La Liga and the Copa Del Rey during his spell in Catalonia, as well as the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.

For that reason, he definitely knows a thing or two about their Wednesday night opposition at the Camp Nou.

When talking to UEFA just ahead of the clash, he revealed what he thinks will be key to beating Barcelona in their own backyard.

Here’s what he said in full:

“At home, they are very strong.

“If we have a chance or two, we can’t waste them. I played there with Manchester United and we wasted three or four chances. Then they have one or two and score, and next thing you’re losing 3-0. If you want to beat Barcelona, you can’t miss any chances.”

Barcelona are a completely different breed at home as opposed to playing on the road.

In fact, it has been six years since they were last beaten at their home ground in the Champions League. Of course, the Catalans have had their fair share of humiliations and European disasters but the majority have come on enemy territory.

For that reason, Sanchez’s warning definitely holds true.

So far, Inter have tallied an average of 2.2 goals per game this season in Serie A.

That’s not to mention that they are currently overperforming their xG (expected goals) – so far, their xG value stands at 11.89 according to Understat but they have scored a total of 13 already.

This shows that they are, in fact, very clinical in front of goal and if they can repeat that at the Camp Nou, they just might get something out of the clash.
