Liverpool fans concerned by poor Robertson performances

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Liverpool fans have been reflecting on their 0-0 draw against Bayern Munich, and they’re more than a little worried about a bad patch of form for Andy Robertson.

Robertson has been one of the most consistent performers in the Premier League since joining Liverpool in a deal worth an initial £8m, as the Scottish captain’s performance levels rarely drop below a seven out of ten.

That hasn’t been the case recently though, as he seems to have lost a little bit of the attacking spark that has seen him rack up eight assists in all competitions this season, and even more worryingly he has looked shaky at the back.

After a poor showing in the 1-1 draw against Leicester, it was the 24 year-old who needlessly gave away a free kick at the London Stadium, from which West Ham equalised, and he struggled massively with Bayern ace Serge Gnabry on Tuesday night.

That is now three games out of the last four that the all-action left-back hasn’t been at his best, and you can find some of the best Twitter reactions down below…

Rangers preparing for Kent interest

An update has emerged on Rangers star Ryan Kent, regarding potential interest in the Ibrox forward next month…

What’s the talk?

According to the Daily Record, via Ibrox News, the Gers are preparing to receive offers from other clubs for the star forward.

The report claims that Steven Gerrard’s presence at Aston Villa could lead to an official bid coming in for his services in January.

Disaster

Gio van Bronckhorst could be heading for a season-defining Ibrox disaster with this update and if he does leave, it would surely leave Rangers fans gutted. Kent is a crucial member of the side and his exit would be a major blow to their ambitions this season, as he has the quality to be a difference-maker in the final third.

The Gers are top of the Scottish Premiership and through to the knockout stages of the Europa League and Kent’s departure could weaken their chances in both competitions.

Last season, Kent produced ten goals and nine assists in the league as Rangers won the title. He also managed two goals and two assists in the Europa League, showing off his ability to score and create goals both domestically and in Europe.

Earlier this year, his teammate Leon Balogun illustrated the attacker’s talents with an insight into the problems he causes in training. He said:

“One who causes me real problems in training every now and then is Ryan Kent. He’s a wing wizard, my god, he’s a problem.

“There was this one goal, I think against Hamilton where he just turns the defender inside out, dropping the shoulder, dropping it again, and the guy doesn’t know where he is, so we have a few of them.”

Therefore, Kent leaving the club could be a huge blow to van Bronckhorst and be a disaster for Rangers as they would be losing a player who has proven that he is a top performer in the Premiership and in the Europa League.

There is no guarantee that Ross Wilson will be able to dip into the transfer market and replace his goals and assists with a new signing, which could then impact what the Gers are able to do in the second half of the campaign.

Fans would be gutted and devastated if Rangers sell Kent in January and then end up losing or drawing games in the final few months due to a lack of cutting edge in the final third, which they know he has the quality to provide.

This means that selling the ex-Liverpool man could be a season-defining disaster as it could derail their title challenge if his contributions in front of goal are not adequately replaced next month. Hopefully, Wilson will be able to rebuff interest and van Bronkhorst will be able to benefit from his talent for the rest of the season, at least.

Rangers: Gio must unleash Hagi tonight

Rangers manager Gio van Bronckhorst will be hoping to extend his unbeaten start to life in Glasgow as his side return to Ibrox tonight.

The Gers host St Johnstone in the Scottish Premiership after they beat Hearts 2-0 away from home on Sunday, thanks to goals from Alfredo Morelos and Joe Aribo.

Since arriving at the club after the 3-1 defeat to Hibernian in the League Cup, the Dutchman has won five of his six matches – including all four of his league games in charge.

Unleash him

With this game coming just three days after the win over Hearts, van Bronckhorst may want to make a few changes to freshen the team up.

One player he must unleash on St Johnstone is attacking midfielder Ianis Hagi. The ex-Genk man was given a watching brief on Sunday and could be fresh and ready to grasp his chance with both hands if he is given a start.

Scott Arfield started in the number 10 role at the weekend and produced a poor performance as he struggled on and off the ball. As per SofaScore, he failed with all of his attempted dribbles and missed two ‘big chances’, whilst creating just one chance and losing 60% of his individual duels.

This suggests that it could be beneficial to bench the Canadia international, with Hagi potentially the perfect option to come in and replace him.

Former Gers boss Steven Gerrard once lauded the son of legendary Romanian footballer Gheorghe Hagi, as he said: “We’re really happy with Ianis Hagi, he’s a joy to work with.

“He’s a student of the game. He’s always looking at areas to improve, whether that be from a physical point of view or tactically or technically. He’s someone you have to drag off the training ground.

“Ianis is always in the analyst department too. He’s never out of the gym, so he’s an absolute dream to work with, very low maintenance. We’re delighted with how he is developing and progressing and we’re happy to have him.”

Hagi has averaged an impressive SofaScore rating of 7.12 this season in the Premiership and has not missed a single big chance, whilst creating 1.6 chances per game. Last term, he produced seven goals and 11 assists in 23 starts as he showed that he has the quality to be a difference-maker in the final third.

Therefore, van Bronckhorst should axe Arfield from the XI after his Hearts shocker and place the mercurial gem Hagi into the team. He has shown that he can perform consistently at this level and the Dutchman will know that he is selecting a player capable of having a big impact on the match.

Rangers fans flock to Defoe comments

Many Glasgow Rangers fans have been flocking to some comments which have emerged from Jermain Defoe.

Speaking on Sky Sports, the striker was talking about how he left club earlier this week and suggested that he wanted to stay and continue playing for them. He confessed: “Even at the age of 39 I still wanted to be involved. Towards the end it was affecting me, I was taking it home and I was a little bit down…”

Defoe was a wonderful servant to Rangers during his time at Ibrox, scoring 32 goals and supplying a further 10 assists in 76 games over all competitions across the last four seasons (title last term.

However, he has now left the Light Blues, and if he wants to continue playing football, he will have to find another club as a free agent. Nonetheless, many Gers supporters seemed moved by his admission.

These Rangers fans flocked to the striker’s comments as they were shared on Twitter, with one going as far as to claim that Defoe is a ‘phenomenal’ person:

Celtic: Cameron Carter-Vickers discussions ongoing

Celtic are still in discussions with Tottenham over a permanent deal for Cameron Carter-Vickers, John McGinley reports.

The Lowdown: Impressive loan

Carter-Vickers made the move to Glasgow late in the summer window and has been a near ever-present figure under Ange Postecoglou.

The centre-back, labelled as ‘quick’ by former Bournemouth boss Jonathan Woodgate, has missed just one Scottish Premiership fixture since becoming a Hoops player and has been the club’s best performing centre-back, as per WhoScored.

Reports at the beginning of January suggested that the club were working on permanent moves for both Carter-Vickers and Jota after including options in their respective loan deals. Full-time transfers failed to materialise last month, but it seems as if Celtic are still in talks.

The Latest: McGinley’s tweet

Celtic reporter McGinley took to Twitter on Saturday evening to relay comments from Postecoglou on Carter-Vickers and Jota.

He said that talks are continuing and are being led by CEO Michael Nicholson.

“Ange Postecoglou says discussions re: the purchase of Cameron Carter-Vickers and Jota are ongoing ‘over the next period’, led by Michael Nicholson and involving the players themselves. ‘It will take care of itself.’ No guarantees, of course.”

The Verdict: Needed

Carter-Vickers, on £22,000-a-week, has proven he can be a reliable and top member of Postecoglou’s squad, so making his move permanent appears to be a no brainer.

The option to buy fee reportedly stands at an initial £6m, a figure which is over twice his Transfermarkt valuation. Nicholson may be looking to bring that fee down slightly, however, there is thought to be no wriggle room on the overall price.

It could well be that talks continue until the summer, where Nicholson and Celtic may have to make a decision one way or the other on Carter-Vickers, but it would be disappointing if he isn’t a permanent Hoops player ahead of the 2022/23 season following his impressive temporary stay.

Manchester City: Fans react to Dusan Vlahovic news

Flocking to Twitter, Manchester City fans have expressed mixed feelings over an update in the Dusan Vlahovic saga.

A whole host of Premier League clubs are reportedly interested in securing the services of the Serbia international, including the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur. However, it is reported that if Vlahovic were to move to an English side, it would be to either Chelsea or Manchester City.

The 21-year-old has been in breath-taking form this season, scoring 16 goals in 20 league games for Fiorentina, and he has also netted seven times in 14 games for his country.

The 6 foot 3 youngster also bagged 21 Serie A goals last term, seemingly getting stronger with each passing campaign.

Man City fans react to Vlahovic news

The report from TuttoMercatoWeb (shared by Sport Witness and City Xtra) claims that only four clubs could sign the striker this summer – Barcelona, Juventus, Chelsea and Manchester City.

Flocking to Twitter, lots of Manchester City fans have expressed a variety of reactions in response to the news shared by City Xtra, that explains how Vlahovic would only accept City or Chelsea if he were to choose to move to the Premier League.

Here’s what some of them had to say, with some preferring a move for Erling Haaland…

Newcastle transfer news on Jason Knight

Newcastle United are reportedly keen on signing Jason Knight in the January transfer window.

The Lowdown: Derby woes

With Derby County now under threat of liquidation because of their financial woes, players like the 20-year-old may have to be sold in January in order to raise some important funds for the club.

They currently sit on just one point in the Championship table after having several points deducted, and they are under serious threat of relegation.

Still, that has not stopped Knight from performing to his best, with two goals and two assists in the league so far this season.

The Latest: Newcastle keen on Knight

As per Football League World, Newcastle are just one of a number of clubs in the Premier League who are keen on signing Knight in January, along with Everton, Wolves, Crystal Palace, Leicester City, Leeds United and Burnley.

He is a leading contender to leave the Rams, as administrators have refused to rule out selling players in January in order to raise funds if a buyer for the club cannot be found before then.

The Lowdown: Makes sense

A move for Knight in January would make a lot of sense, as even with the risk of the Magpies getting relegated, he would then be back in the Championship and potentially ready to sign for another club.

Described as a ‘manager’s dream’ by Rams boss Wayne Rooney back in January, the youngster can play in a variety of different positions all over the pitch, which could be very useful to Eddie Howe and his squad.

At just 20 years of age, he has already broken into the Republic of Ireland senior side, and former Irish international Andy Reid thinks that he has a ‘big future’ in the game.

It would duly seem that signing him would be a smart piece of business from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) consortium.

Spurs agree personal terms for Adama Traore

According to GiveMeSport, there has been another big update in Tottenham Hotspur’s hunt to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers star Adama Traore.

The Lowdown: Spurs talks ongoing…

Over the last fortnight, Spurs and transfer chief Fabio Paratici have been in talks to sign the 25-year-old as Antonio Conte seeks a new makeshift right wing-back for his system.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-latest-news-2/” title=”Tottenham latest news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Tottenham have even attempted to negotiate a loan with an obligation to buy for Traore as this transfer saga seemingly drags on through to the last few days of the January window.

This comes amid Paratici’s efforts to complete other deals as they also reportedly close in on the signing of Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat and continue talks to offload club record signing Tanguy Ndombele.

The Latest: Personal terms completed…

Sharing an update on Traore, GiveMeSport have a promising development. According to their sources, Tottenham and the Spain international have now agreed personal terms to make him the fourth-highest paid player in Conte’s squad.

It is believed that the Lilywhites will pay Traore a bumper £120,000-per-week salary if they can agree a deal with Wolves as the north London club edge that little bit closer to his arrival, with the report describing this as a ‘significant breakthrough’.

All that’s left now is for Spurs to make a formal bid for the winger, as GiveMeSport claim they are eyeing an initial loan move ahead of a permanent transfer in the summer.

The Verdict: Get it done…

Signing Traore would undoubtedly boost Conte’s options at N17 and provide a much larger threat down the right flank.

As he seeks a carbon copy of Victor Moses, who the Italian re-moulded into a top- class right wing-back at Chelsea, the Molineux ace could certainly do a similar job across London.

Traore has averaged a hugely threatening 4.2 successful take-ons per 90 in the Premier League this season, a far greater return than any of Conte’s current options at Tottenham (WhoScored).

Described as a ‘world-beater’ by Wolves legend Steve Bull, agreeing personal terms with the 25-year-old certainly seems like one large step towards a potentially exciting addition as Spurs aim to finish the January transfer window on a high.

Rangers must unleash Glen Kamara

Glasgow Rangers have the chance to put an end to a frantic week by securing a place in the final of the Scottish Cup.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side were in action on Thursday night as they made it through to the semi-finals of the Europa League by beating Braga 3-1.

The Gers now take on Celtic in the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup, having lost to the Hoops in the SPFL earlier this month.

On the chalkboard

One player that didn’t start in midweek that should now make a return to the starting XI for Rangers is midfielder Glen Kamara.

Having replaced Ryan Jack after 80 minutes on Thursday, the 26-year-old ended up playing 40 minutes in total as the game went to extra time.

In those 40 minutes, the midfielder did his best to make sure his side kept their composure and see out the match once Kemar Roofe had scored the goal that put Rangers ahead on aggregate.

With 42 touches of the ball in total, the Finnish international completed 32 of the 35 passes he attempted, including two successful long balls.

He also managed to win four of the five duels he was involved in, block one shot and draw two fouls, showing how useful he was when he came on.

In the SPFL, Kamara has also shown what a useful defensive figure he is, with Joe Aribo (32) being the only other midfielder to have won more than his 19 tackles.

Similarly, John Lundstram (28) is the only other Rangers midfielder to rack up more interceptions than the £21k-per-week talent (22).

Taking into account the fact that Celtic ended up scoring seven goals in their previous outing against St Johnstone and have had a full week of rest, having a defensively capable player like the £5.4m-rated figure in his starting XI would appear a very wise move by Van Bronckhorst.

Labelled both “aggressive” and a “class act” in the past by former Gers manager Steven Gerrard, Kamara would very much appear to be the right player to break up the Bhoys’ attacks most efficiently.

Indeed, after his solid run out in midweek, Van Bronckhorst should definitely unleash the midfield machine from the start this time around – as Kamara’s presence in the middle of the park would certainly terrify Celtic.

Man Utd: Report makes Eriksen claim

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Manchester United are considering a move for Brentford’s attacking midfielder Christian Eriksen.

The lowdown: Eriksen enjoying fairytale comeback

When regulations in Italy ruled out the possibility of a career in Serie A following a cardiac arrest during Denmark’s Euro 2020 clash with Finland, Eriksen had to be released by Inter Milan.

The 30-year-old subsequently signed for Brentford on a short-term deal and continued a fairytale return to professional football in west London on the weekend, netting a first Premier League goal since joining the Bees against Chelsea.

This came just after the former Tottenham star scored twice upon his comeback to the international stage recently.

As the end of the season and the conclusion of a deal at the west London club comes into view, it appears that Brentford may struggle to retain the Dane’s services…

The latest: United watching Eriksen

As per the Daily Mail, the Red Devils are believed to be ‘monitoring’ Eriksen ahead of a potential summer swoop.

With the 30-year-old set to become a free agent in July (as per Transfermarkt), Manchester United and Tottenham are both attentive to the 111-cap playmaker’s situation at Brentford.

The verdict: Perfect Pogba replacement

As Eriksen becomes a free agent, there can be no doubting the logic in pursuing a deal for the £13.5m valued man, particularly as United brace themselves for the seemingly imminent departure of Paul Pogba.

Boasting an enviable trophy haul along with 230 English top-flight appearances, signing the Denmark star would be the ideal tonic to boost the Old Trafford squad in terms of quality and experience.

Previously hailed as ‘world class’ by former Spurs team-mate Dele Alli, adding Eriksen’s impressive technical ability to the squad to dovetail alongside the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho would surely be an exciting prospect, particularly on a free transfer.
