Jose Mourinho is keen to take Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz to Roma.

And, as to be expected, the latest transfer link has had a number of Villa fans talking on social media.

According to BBC Sport reporter Alistair Magowan, Roma are interested in signing Luiz.

The Italian side have had a bid rejected for Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka, thought to be worth £12.9m. Luiz is name-checked in the report, with the 23-year-old currently holding a Transfermarkt valuation of £31.5m.

The Brazilian missed just five Premier League games under Dean Smith last season, taking his Villa Park appearance tally to 76.

Mourinho was in charge of Tottenham in a 2-0 win at Villa Park back in March, a game in which Luiz played the entirety.

Many West Ham United fans have been left to fume as a transfer update emerged on Aaron Ramsey.

As per Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness), the East London club, as well as a number of other teams in the Premier League, are interested in signing the Juventus man in the summer window.

The London Stadium faithful are one of the frontrunners for his signature along with Crystal Palace, but his €7m (£6m) a year wages may prove to be a stumbling block.

Coupled up with the fact that he is now 30 years of age and has had a lot of injury problems throughout his footballing career so far, it is not a surprise to see so many Hammers supporters opposed to a potential deal for the former Arsenal central midfield player.

David Moyes’ team do need to strengthen in the middle of the park, with Declan Rice, Tomas Soucek and Mark Noble the only real senior options for the Scotsman at the moment, but Ramsey should not be the answer given his fitness troubles.

The Whites are in the middle of a special period in their history, having finally returned to the Premier League this season.

Bielsa has been the undoubted key reason for Leeds’ success, transforming the club’s fortunes and playing an exciting brand of high-energy attacking football.

“From a Spurs point of view, I would love to see Bielsa there.

“When you compare the Spurs and Leeds squad there is not much comparison, and that is no disrespect to the Leeds squad. Tottenham’s squad is made up of top international players.

“Look at what Bielsa got from that group of Leeds players in the Championship, it makes you wonder what he could get from those Spurs players. It could be unbelievable.

“From a Leeds point of view though it would be an absolute disaster. It really would.

“He would be a very shrewd appointment but I don’t think they’ve got any chance of luring him away.”

The Verdict: Too loyal to leave

The thought of Bielsa suddenly leaving Leeds is a horrendous one, considering he has been the catalyst for such a memorable few years at Elland Road.

Losing him now, at a point when the Whites are primed for a possible European push next season, would be extremely hard to come back from, such is his level of influence.

Bielsa is a fiercely loyal, principled character, however, so it would be a big surprise if he didn’t extend his stay and moved to north London instead.

Alasdair Gold has revealed that, while Mauricio Pochettino’s future at Paris Saint-Germain remains uncertain, he has not yet had contact with Tottenham in regards to a potential return to the club.

Pochettino was replaced by Jose Mourinho in November 2019, who himself was sacked last month just a few days prior to the Carabao Cup final.

The managerial position at Spurs remains vacant as Daniel Levy continues his search for the next man to step into the hot seat.

In an article for football.london, Gold has said that the 49-year-old’s future at the Parc des Princes is up in the air, but added that there has not yet been any contact between the Argentine and Levy.

Pochettino replaced Thomas Tuchel at PSG in December of last year on an 18-month contract – he will earn £467,000 per month (gentside.co.uk), or about £8.4m overall. The Parisians have won seven of the last eight league titles in France, so to not finish top of the table would be a huge disappointment.

Pochettino remains a hugely popular figure from his time in north London (The Boot Room) and there could well be a contingent of the support who would welcome him back with open arms.

However, returning to his former club, who are further away from success than PSG, could be perceived as a step backwards, so it remains to be seen what the next few months hold for the former Southampton manager.

Ralph Hasenhuttl appears to have suffered a huge blow at Southampton ahead of their game against Burnley on Sunday, with James Ward-Prowse a doubt after picking up an injury on international duty.

The 26-year-old did not feature in England’s final World Cup qualifying fixture against Poland after he was sent back to Southampton as a ‘fitness precaution’.

However, Hasenhuttl has since confirmed that the midfielder hasn’t trained with the club at all this week as they prepare to take on Sean Dyche’s side at St Mary’s, with a calf problem casting doubt over whether he will be fit enough to feature.

It would be a big blow to the Austrian manager if he were without his captain, as Ward-Prowse has played every single minute for the Saints this season and has enjoyed arguably his best campaign in the top flight.

The academy graduate has contributed seven goals and five assists in 29 Premier League appearances, resulting in an impressive 7.10 average WhoScored rating – the best of any Southampton player this season.

What is even worse for Hasenhuttl is that fellow midfield options Oriol Romeu and Will Smallbone are out for the season, so he may be forced into a difficult decision on Sunday if Ward-Prowse is unavailable.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld delivered a timely reminder to Jose Mourinho in midweek as he excelled for Belgium in their 3-1 win over Gareth Bale and Joe Rodon’s Wales.

The 31-year-old centre-back has fallen out of favour at Spurs in recent weeks, featuring in just one of their last four matches in all competitions – that being the north London derby defeat.

Since Christmas, Alderweireld has been snubbed from the starting XI a total of ten times, with Davinson Sanchez and Eric Dier often preferred despite calls for them to be sold by ex-Spurs midfielder Jamie O’Hara.

It’s even more surprising as the long-serving powerhouse was one of the first players to sign a fresh contract extension under Mourinho.

He was absent for the trip to Villa due to a reported illness but, just days later, he has started and starred in the Red Devils’ opening World Cup qualifier.

Alderweireld was arguably their most influential player on the night, managing a whopping 154 touches of the ball – nearly double what Man City superstar Kevin De Bruyne managed (88) throughout the same time frame.

This suggests that Roberto Martinez was confident enough to deploy a gameplan through the veteran Spurs defender. This was accompanied by a squad-high 137 passes, completed at an accuracy rate of 93%, as per SofaScore.

Belgian radio station RTBF had Alderweireld rated amongst their best defenders and claimed: “Several long balls as usual. Rarely caught failing, except in the 56th [when Dan James fired off a shot at goal].”

Against a tricky-looking front three of James, Bale and Harry Wilson, the £13.5m-rated star was rock-solid, also providing one clearance and winning 50% of his aerial duels.

By comparison, his current Spurs rival Rodon managed only 50 touches and 36 passes all game, as per SofaScore.

In the Premier League for Spurs, Alderweireld only averages 65.9 touches and 44.8 accurate passes, so that certainly suggests he was playing out of his skin for his country this week.

Spurs’ defensive issues over the course of the season have been well-documented – as mentioned above, both Dier and Sanchez have been particularly error-prone.

The forgotten Spurs colossus has certainly thrown his name back into the hat with such a commanding and impressive display on international duty this week.
